What is corticosteroid cream used for?
Topical corticosteroids are synthetic (man-made) corticosteroid medications used for treating skin conditions such as rash, dermatitis, itching, eczema, and psoriasis. Topical corticosteroids have potent anti-inflammatory actions and also suppress the immune response.
Can I put moderately potent steroid cream on my face?
Steroid Cream Potency and Absorption Only the lowest potency topical steroids should be used on your face. This is because the skin on your face is thin, so it absorbs more of the steroid than other areas of your body.
How long can you use corticosteroid cream?
Most people need to use hydrocortisone treatments once or twice a day for 1 to 2 weeks. But if you buy it from a pharmacy or shop, do not use it for more than 1 week, talk to a doctor first. Never put hydrocortisone on your face unless your doctor says it’s OK and has given you a prescription for it.

You can usually use it for up to 3 months, but tell your doctor if you feel no better after using it for 14 days. If you are prescribed mometasone, your doctor may advise you to use it for longer.
