What is Requip taken for?
This medication is used alone or with other medications to treat Parkinson’s disease. It can improve your ability to move and decrease shakiness (tremor), stiffness, slowed movement, and unsteadiness. It may also decrease the number of episodes of not being able to move (“on-off syndrome”).
What condition is treated with Requip?
Requip (ropinirole) is a non-ergoline dopamine agonist used to treat symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, such as stiffness, tremors, muscle spasms, and poor muscle control. Requip is also used to treat restless legs syndrome (RLS).
Does Requip help with nerve pain?
Requip is also used used to treat symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, such as stiffness, tremors, muscle spasms, and poor muscle control. Neurontin is used off-label to treat restless leg syndrome. Neurontin is primarily used to treat seizures and to treat nerve pain caused by shingles (herpes zoster).
How long does Requip take to work?
Response and effectiveness. Peak concentrations of ropinirole are achieved within one to two hours, but it takes approximately two days of regular dosing to reach stable blood levels in the body.
How do you wean off Requip?
As with other dopamine agonists, it is necessary to discontinue ropinirole treatment gradually by reducing the number of daily doses over the period of one week (see section 4.4). Individual dose titration against efficacy and tolerability is recommended.
How long does it take for Requip to get out of your system?
The clearance of ropinirole after oral administration to patients is 47 L/hour and its elimination half-life is approximately 6 hours. It is extensively metabolized by the liver to inactive metabolites and demonstrates linear kinetics over the therapeutic dosing range of 1–8 mg 3 times daily.
Do you have to take Requip every day?
Take this medicine every day exactly as ordered by your doctor in order to improve your condition as much as possible. Do not take more of it or less of it, and do not take it more or less often than your doctor ordered.
